Burgers Vs. Bullets!

Okay, so I'm taking a look at my Rifleman's Resolutions for the New Year and I've realized that I've got a problem. Where am I going to come up with the money to buy my coveted assault rifle? Well, there are a couple places where I am well known for wasting money:

Yeah, yeah. I know. I've always felt guilty about eating out twice a day (on average). It's a drain on the pocket book and a stress on the already too-tight pants, to say nothing of what it's probably been doing to my arteries. I've wanted to quit doing it, but I could never come up with a good motivation to do so.

So, rather than make a stupid resolution about losing weight why not find a unique way to put more money in the pocketbook and have the pleasant side-effect of losing a few pounds (and not having a heart attack before my kids are out of high school)?

It's all about priorities - eat or buy an "assault rifle"? Man, I'm feeling some real will-power kicking in. It's time for the "Burgers vs. Bullets" war!

As part of my motivation I will be keeping track of my funds on the blog where you can all mock me (or *cough* *cough* cheer me on). Here's how it works. Each meal costs about $4.25 and on weekends I usually have a nice meal out with some friends that costs a bit more (like $8.00). Each time I avoid eating at one of the grease factories I get to put $4.25 in the Assault Rifle savings account - on weekends I get a bonus $8.00 for being good. When I have enough money in there then it's time to go shopping for my burger gun.

So, how much could I potentially save? Well if I spend about $53 a week eating out (calculated as (5*(2*4.50))+8.00=53 ) then that's about $2,756 a year. Now I know that I don't have perfect willpower (despite the incredible motivation I'm having looking at that rifle in the picture). So, even with some breaks in resolve I should have more than enough to buy a rifle as well as something else.

You know, I never did like hamburgers that much anyway....

Good luck to you with the change in your dietary habits and the hopeful increase in your firearms. I don’t eat but a couple burgers at those joints per year so it won’t help me to acquire funds for my next pistol.

I have somewhat wanted to purchase a Colt AR-15 but can’t put my money down on one. I shot a friend of mine’s a number of years ago and thought it was a toy! I asked him “what are you using, blanks?” I just didn’t realize just what that gun was all about and with no kick and a “clack, clack” of a report I was disheartened to say the least! I love shooting my 30-06 bolt action and getting the kick that I like and the sharp “crack” report, I just don’t think an AR will cut it for me, at this time anyhow.

My next purchase is going to be, hopefully, a heavy Smith & Wesson, stainless steel 357 magnum with at least a four-inch barrel, I’ve been wanting one of those for years and NOW’S THE TIME!

Good luck with the buck$ for burger$ and you get your firearm, they are extremely popular and have gone up considerably in price through the years.

Anonymous,

Thanks for the comments and the encouragement.

I know of what you speak when you talk about recoil. Unfortunately, I have a bum shoulder and, although I can shoot ambidextrously, I sometimes have to keep myself under check when it's time to buy a rifle. I'll check out the Colt as well as some of the other AR-type.

The .357 is a blast, but I bought the Ruger GP-100. It'll take a massive amount of abuse and keep running. I've fired mine with full-house magnum loads until the frame was so hot it burned me (the rubber grips do wonders for insulation as well as recoil). Worse, I once had some bad loads and was stacking wad cutters up in the barrel. I never noticed. I just shot them out with the next pull of the trigger. I finally realized what was happening when one of the bullets didn't make it all the way into the forcing cone and locked the gun up. I pounded it loose with a cleaning rod and a hammer.

Any gun that can take that kind of abuse and keep ticking away has my vote. It still shoots like it did the day I bought it.

If you need other ideas to save money for guns and ammunition I do have one suggestion. Just sign up online for all of the mailing lists for the Democratic party and the gun-control groups. You'll have massive amounts of paper appropriate for the job in no time flat.

It might be a bit rougher, but I doubt you'll mind. The joy alone from having those Lefty Loonies buying your guns and ammo will make up for any perceived discomfort.
